Isolation isn't a particular curse, it's just where good people tend to end up.

“Grief, when it comes, is nothing like we expect it to be.”

Joan Didion observed this disorienting fact in her classic memoir of loss : “Grief, when it comes, is nothing like we expect it to be.” And when it does come, it unweaves the very fabric of our being. When love is lost, we lose the part of ourselves that did the loving — a part that, depending on the magnitude of the love, can come to approximate the whole of who we are. I have been missing my father very much lately, and this quote really touched me.

Mention that Marie hasn’t been supportive in the past, and especially since her surgery and you’re terrified that you’ve offended her in some way, and if you have not then tell her that it makes you sad that maybe she didn’t fight a little harder to see me now and then since I only live 25 minutes away, and then I find out that one of her closest (new) friends lives just up the hill from my house, and that makes me even sadder because of the times where months would pass and you’d pray (even though you long ago stopped believing in God) that maybe if you just had ONE friend, just ONE person to talk to - that maybe, just maybe, some of the stories of your life and existence would survive - but what kind of friend allows their friend to be alone, and with so many words to utter and nobody to speak them to, for years? (Or am I having feelings of jealousy because of her success in rejoining “the living?” I’m conflicted on that.) Remember to tell her about how it’s like your husband doesn...

I would not at all be surprised if I danced to Too Shy, Too Shy followed up with Promises, Promises ....

I would not at all be surprised if I danced to Too Shy, Too Shy followed up with Promises, Promises .... it was a weird one to dance to because it was dark and sexy but funky and poppy - I never did a drug in my life back then - well, still haven't except Xanax might be the worst? - but that music was TRIPPPY as fuck and just wonderful wonderful wonderful - and everything was pointy and smelled like Aqua Net. -L. There are no obvious red flags that would indicate to me that he was definitely faking it. -Robert Leonard, Forensic Voice Analyst The statement impresses me because it's the most direct route to saying very little, yet committing to absolutely nothing that I've ever heard.  Well done, sir. Mormon, but without the BS

It seems like it'd be a perfect life to be Mormon but without the religious bullshit part of it. You'd never be lonely and your husband would never get pissed if you didn't want to have sex.  I think you'd smile and laugh more often.  I wouldn't want anyone coming in my house to check up on my family either because wtf is that?  I may have to give this more thought, but the nice parts of the Christian bible, you know, the kindness and love part - not the talking snakes or submissive women part...it just seems nice. Something nice is needed badly right now by me personally. Mormon ... why did they go with that word, I wonder. "Like the bible says, when we lose one sheep we go and look for it and don't leave it neglected and forgotten about, so I'd like to help the family."  Or maybe I just like that part.  I heard a woman say it on a crime documentary. I don't know.  Again, it just sounded really nice and welcoming.

So cool, but like, in a zappy geeky adorable way.

[Biblical figure Elizabeth] These are appropriate because she herself was a countess, falsely accused, homeless, a tertiary, a widow, and a young bride.

St.  Elizabeth   What made Saint Elizabeth so special? St. Elizabeth was proclaimed to be the patron  saint  of "bakers, countesses, death of children, falsely accused, the homeless, nursing services, tertiaries, widows, and young brides."  These are appropriate because she was a countess, falsely accused, homeless, a tertiary, a widow, and a young bride. Misapplication of perfectly valid knowledge will mess you up every time. There is an old saying that covers this concept and a bit more: Data is not information. Information is not knowledge. Knowledge is not wisdom.
